If you are looking at performance levels that will require an engine pull anyways (say 500 HP plus), and the associated suspension, brake and drivetrain mods to match, then these cars are basically shells now and you should pick the nicest body you can find. Basically everything is coming apart and will likely be replaced - very liitle will be re-used. Furthermore, there is no point buying a clip anymore if you are going with aftermarket turbos, manis, IC's and pipes, radiator, oil cooler, injectors, clutch, motor mounts etc, etc. On my latest swap I started with an 96 NA slicktop, an old JDM TT motor and a 120k kit and then went from aftermarket from there.
